Senior Software Engineer - Safety Experience

The Safety Experience team builds product features and systems that protect Discord's users from harmful activity while maintaining regulatory compliance. The role involves designing, building, and deploying production APIs, backend services, and data pipelines for safety features, and collaborating with Product, Design, Policy, Data Science, ML, Legal, and Trust & Safety Operations. The engineer reports to the Engineering Manager of Safety Experience and leads end-to-end delivery of safety-related projects.

• 5+ years with Python and backend frameworks like Flask or Django; 5+ years building front-end interfaces with JavaScript (React, TypeScript) for web and mobile; familiarity with databases such as Cassandra, Postgres, and ScyllaDB; experience leading complex projects end-to-end; strong debugging and testing skills in production systems; data-driven decision-making using metrics and dashboards; strong communication skills. Bonus: experience in safety/anti-abuse domains, Datadog/Mode, Kafka/Pub-Sub, mobile client development, and lower-level languages like Go, Rust, or Elixir.
